Professor Hassan Diab joins Sud South Advisory Board

Professor Hassan Diab, prominent academic, recently Prime Minister and Minister of Education of Lebanon, has joined Sud South’s Advisory Board.
Professor Diab promotes a clear vision of “nothing less than changing the world” and brings his wealth of experience and his solid international network to Sud South. His vision of responsible citizenship in a dynamic, rapidly changing world especially in emerging markets will add value to Sud South projects.
Dr. Marie-Paule Donsimoni, Chair of the Advisory Board, said, « Professor Diab’s vision of a knowledge-based economy where technology enhances youth potential together with productivity in key sectors of the economy, will strengthen Sud South’s vision and mission. »
Professor Diab’s career spans over 30 years. As an academic, he held several academic positions in the departments of electrical engineering, computer science and mathematics prior to becoming Vice President at the American University of Beirut (“AUB”). Furthermore, he was elected Prime Minister of Lebanon in 2019, after serving as Minister of Education and Higher Education.
To the question, “What motivated you to join Sud South’s Advisory Board?” Professor Diab answered:
“Sud South’s project in the artisanal mining sector is an example of how the world can be improved. Using a blockchain supply-chain platform, consumers and manufacturers will be able to monitor the origin of materials, be it copper or cobalt, embedded in cars, laptops, and phone batteries. Sud South’s initiatives for impact projects, including the promotion of education, research, and skills development for the manufacture of Electrical Vehicle (“EV”) batteries are aligned with my vision of a world completely dependent on renewable energy and it is , therefore, with great pleasure that I will share my experience with Sud South”
Eddy Kioni, CEO of Sud South, added: « Professor Diab’s vision is underpinned by his technological knowledge and rich experience in education, as well as politics. Together with the other members of our advisory board, he will certainly support Sud South in developing and promoting its service offering in seeking buy-in from stakeholders at all levels involved in the quest for energy transition in terms of regulatory enforcement, project financing, supply chain redesign and industrial strategies for the Congolese mining sector in general, with a particular focus on the artisanal mining sector. »
